Cinnamon Basil
An abundance of basil in the garden requires creative and untraditional uses, such as in an ice cream.

The basil in my garden is growing phenomenally well right now. With all the rain we've been getting the past few weeks (6.4" in May according to my backyard rain gauge), there is more than I can ever use so I've been searching for creative uses of the basil.
One of my books had a cinnamon basil version that seemed interesting so I thought I would try it. Cinnamon basil is an actual variety of basil and since I just have a standard sweet basil, I added some cinnamon sticks to try to replicate the flavor.

The ice cream had the distinctive flavors of the cinnamon and basil although they seemed "separate". I suspect that actual cinnamon basil would be better so I may need to go out of my way to seek out some cinnamon basil, either leaves or the plants to grow myself.
I didn't make any ice cream toppings, but a fudge sauce would be delicious on top of this. Serving this with a crumble would also be a delicious way to finish off a meal.
