Cherry
Cherries and chocolate are a timeless combination.

There is so much good fruit in season right now, so I might as well continue onwards with the summer of sherbets - this time featuring cherries! The season for cherries is fleeting so I decided to up the game today with a sundae featuring cherries in two components - a cherry sherbet as the base with a candied cherry to top off the treat.

This sherbet was absolutely delectable. I don't think I would change anything.
I used my standard sherbet recipe with cherry puree. Since I do not have a cherry pitter, preparing the puree took a little longer since I needed to cut around the pit and then pull it out. But on the plus side, I was effectively guaranteed a pit-free puree as it's quickly apparent if you miss a pit!
To complement the sherbet, I made some chocolate chunks and mixed those directly into the sherbet. The sundae was finished off with dark chocolate fudge sauce from Cook's Illustrated, fresh whipped cream, and a candied cherry.
This sherbet was inspired by Hello, My Name is Ice Cream.
I recently acquired some new cookbooks for ice cream. The candied cherries were one of the mix-ins from The Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz. There are many delicious looking recipes for frozen treats, mix-ins, and serving vessels that I'm looking forward to trying.
